Dalmatian Jasper

Description

Jasper is a variety of Quartz. The name Jasper comes from the Greek word for ‘spotted stone’. Jaspers are found all over the world and can include up to 20% of foreign material which can create many different varieties of colours. Some Jaspers have nodules or filled in fissures with many different patterns or colour combinations within.
Dalmatian Jasper is also called ‘Dalmatian Stone’. It comes from Chihuahua Mexico. It is called Dalmatian stone because of its similar appearance to a Dalmatian dog. It has black spots (mostly Black Tourmaline) on a cream/white/grey coloured background. Because it is a soft stone and porous it will take dye well so coloured stones are always dyed.
